Vanderbilt Industries designs and manufacturs Electronic Security Equipment. Employing over 100 people at Clonshaugh, Dublin, Vanderbilt develops Access Control, Intrusion and Video Management Solutions for most building applications. Vanderbilt is best known in Ireland for its ACT Access Control and SPC Intrusion Detection brands. Vanderbilt provides project design, advisory and installation training services at their training centres in Dublin and in South Wales. 

Training aim

To provide participants with an overview of technological advancements in the Electronic Security Sector and provide best practices guidelines in designing Integrated Security Solutions.

Learning objectives

To give participants an up-to-date understaning of the following:

How Cloud Technology is changing the landscape of Access Control and CCTV security.

The threat of Card Cloning and how using the latest industry standards can best protect against it.

The benefits and risks of distributing data and Power Over Ethernet (PoE) to electronic security devices.  

How new technologies such as biometrics and mobile credentials are changing the way consumers interact with security systems.

Course outline

The course delivers on three sections:

Section 1

Cloud Based Security:

This section examines the security of cloud technology, how it is best deployed and the benefits to the integrator and consumer.

Section 2

RFID Reading and Card Technologies

Identifying the most secure RFID card reading technologies and advising how to protect against card cloning.

Section 3

Emerging Technologies

Using Mobile Phones as virtual cards and the use of Biometrics (fingerprint & facial) for Access Control.

Trainer's profile

Michael Byrden has over twenty years experience in manufacturing electronic security equipment. Michael acted as commercial director for irish based Access Control Technology (ACT) and is currently Strategic Partnership Manager for Vanderbilt Industries.  Michael has worked closely with specifiers and integrators on major capital projects both at home and internationally. He holds an M. Sc in International Business from Trinity College, Dublin.

Once completed, each participant will be expeceted to complete a multiple choice examination demonstrating their understanding of the topics covered.
