Training aim

The CIMA certificate in business accounting (CBA) is the introduction to the CIMA professional qualification and is a recognised qualification in its own right.

Learning objectives

The syllabus is divided into five modules that are designed to provide you with a solid grounding in the different areas of accounting and how they relate practically to the business world. It provides an understanding of the uses of accounting information in planning, controlling and decision making. All Engineer Ireland members are exempt from C03 - Business Mathematics.

Course outline

 The CBA is comprised of five individual study modules:

  • (C01) fundamentals of management accounting.
  • (C02) fundamentals of financial accounting.
  • (C03) fundamentals of business mathematics
  • (C04) fundamentals of business economics.
  • (C05) fundamentals of ethics, corporate governance and business law.

All Engineers Ireland members are exempt from one of the five modules – business mathematics (C03). Members with additional relevant qualifications may also be eligible for more exemptions.

The CBA  gives students  the flexibility to progress at their own pace by planning their studies around their personal circumstances.

Study options include using study text and exam practise kits, blended learning options and online study

Course duration

No time limit.  Average timeline 6 - 12 months.

Assessment and certification

All of the certificate examinations are computer based and can be taken in any order, at any time at any one of twenty exam centres across Ireland
