HomeBond was set up in 1978 to provide structural defects insurance to purchasers of new homes. To date over 650,000 homes have been registered with HomeBond. The company’s core function has been the provision of structural defects cover for purchasers of new homes, with a complementary focus on improving the general overall quality of residential construction in Ireland through advising, educating and training builders, building professionals and other interested parties.

Training aim

The aim of this six day interactive course is to provide attendees with a detailed technical and practical understanding of the Building Regulations for residential construction.

Learning objectives

  • To instil an in-depth understanding of the Building Regulations, Building Control Regulations and the Technical Guidance Documents
  • To enable attendees to apply the relevant knowledge and skills to provide certificates of compliance and specifications for construction
  • To provide an update on recent and pending amendments to technical standards and legislation

Course outline

Building Regulations are central to all aspects of residential construction. The ten modules covered include:

  1. Legislation,
  2. Subsoil’s and site investigations,
  3. Substructures,
  4. Superstructures,
  5. Roof Construction,
  6. Fire Safety & Heating Appliances,
  7. Conservation of Fuel/Energy,
  8. Hygiene; Drainage & Waste Water Disposal,
  9. Access for People with Disabilities, Stairways, Ladders, Ramps & Guards, Materials & Workmanship,
  10. Liability, Indemnity & Structural Defects Insurances.

Trainer's profile

The Course Director Conor Taaffe holds a Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering from UCD and TCD, postgraduate diploma qualifications in Civil Engineering and administration from TCD and the IPA and also holds a Diploma in Legal Studies and Barrister at Law degree from The Honourable Society of King’s Inns. Conor joined HomeBond in 1994. Conor is also a course tutor, a number of other experienced tutors will also lecture on this course.

Assessment & certification

The assessment will take the form of a Multiple Choice Question exam at the end of the each module. 6 CPD credits
