Celebrating volunteers on International Volunteer Day

Today, on International Volunteer Day 2018, Engineers Ireland would like to recognise and thank all the volunteers who work with our organisation nationally and internationally.

"Our volunteer engineers are the lifeblood of our organisation" said Caroline Spillane, Director General of Engineers Ireland. “From taking part in outreach activities with our youth-focused STEPS programme, to their involvement in Chartered Engineer interviews and as committee members across each of our regions, divisions and societies; our volunteer engineers play a pivotal role in the Engineers Ireland community. We appreciate everything they do, the skills they bring and the positive way in which they promote engineering.

“Recognising our volunteer engineers on International Volunteer Day is one of the ways we can thank them for their contribution to our organisation and for inspiring future generations of engineers,” Ms Spillane concluded.

Over 500 volunteers support the youth-focused Engineers Ireland STEPS programme each year. Volunteers visit schools with the Young Engineers Award, host events during Engineers Week and provide Transition Year students with a meaningful experience of engineering through activities and company visits as part of the Engineering Your Future programme.

The Engineers Ireland STEPS team are currently calling on volunteers from engineering organisations, third level institutions and local authorities nationwide to get involved and help inspire the next generation of volunteers during Engineers Week, taking place nationwide from 2- 8 March.
