Over 200 delegates attended the day-long Future of Biopharmaceuticals in Ireland seminar in University of Limerick’s Bernal Institute on Thursday, 20th April.

Sponsored by Jacobs and IChemE, the seminar examined best practice in production facility design, future proofing, new and emergent technology and risk management, with presentations delivered by international speakers from Jacobs, BMS, Sanofi and PM Group.

Delegates in attendance represented all major biopharma and pharma manufacturers in Ireland as well as national and multinational firms in the construction, equipment, and service sectors that feed into the industry

Commenting at the event, Caroline Spillane, Director General of Engineers Ireland said:

“The growth of the biopharmaceutical sector has been to the forefront of Ireland’s economic recovery. With thousands more new jobs in the pipeline across the country, the demand for skilled workers in pharma and biopharma facilities as well as construction and support services continues to increase. Engineers Ireland has prioritised the life sciences sector as an area to focus on delivering professional development and ensuring workers and upskill and reskill to meet that demand.”

Caroline further remarked:

“Engineers Ireland is delighted to partner with Jacobs, the Institute of Chemical Engineers and University of Limerick’s Bernal Institute on this event. The shared experience of over 200 bio-process engineers, facility design experts, educators and researchers has made this a hugely valuable collaborative event that Engineers Ireland will be repeating in the future.”
