Special General Meeting

Special General Meeting

31 March 2011 at 00:00
In 2010, following a lengthy and wide ranging discussion at Council in light of the most stretching economic circumstances being endured by our Members and Engineers Ireland itself, and given that the number of nominations received for the 2010-2011 Council Election was equal to the number of vacancies, Council felt it was not in the best interests of Engineers Ireland to impose considerable additional costs by creating an election by nominating additional candidates as is currently required by the Bye Laws.

The Bye-laws are currently under review and there is a proposal to amend this Bye-law so that we are not compelled to have an election.  Until the full Bye-law review is complete however, the current situation stands.

Members are therefore asked to grant approval to the Council to suspend Bye-law C 1.6.4 specifically for the 2011-2012 election.

In the event that the motion is not carried by the SGM we will proceed with an election if required.

Agenda

To consider and, if thought fit, approve the following recommendation: -
" That Council be empowered not to comply with Bye-law C 1.6.4 in the Institution year 2010-2011"
