The IGI have extended Early-Bird Registration for the upcoming IGI 20th Anniversary Conference 2019 until 13th September.  This event is open to all those working in, or with an interest in, geoscience.

This event takes place on Friday 11th October in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone.

This day-long event will include three sessions;

  • Session One focussing on the origins and evolution of the IGI including the future IGI’s strategy.
  • Session Two will see three high profile speakers present challenging and thought-provoking discussions on climate emergency and the role of geoscientists in this emergency.
  • Session Three will consider community relations and how geoscientists have a key part to play in sustainable development going forward.

Session One speakers include IGI President Mairead Glennon, IGI Founding President Dr. Eibhlin Doyle and President of the European Federation of Geologists Marko Komac.

Session Two speakers include Dr. Cara Augustenborg (Environmental Scientist and Climate Activist), Professor John Sweeney (University of Maynooth) and Nic Bilham (University of Exeter).

Session Three speaks include Ed O’Keefe (Synergy Global), Brendan Slattery (Head of Environment and Planning at McCann Fitzgerald Solicitors) and Lynda Sullivan (Activism and Community Campaigns Officer with Friends of the Earth).

A facilitated networking event will allow IGI members to come together across all geoscience disciplines and to offer an opportunity for members of all career stages to connect. The day will be finished off with a gala dinner to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Institute.
