Egis Road & Tunnel Operation Ireland (ERTO) is currently recruiting for the position of a Civil Engineer.

Egis Road & Tunnel Operation Ireland (ERTO) is an Irish company established in 2005. ERTO is part of the Egis Group.


ERTO's prime responsibility is to manage all processes associated with the Operation and Maintenance of the Dublin Tunnel. This includes Toll Collection, Traffic Management, Tunnel Safety Management, Emergency and Contingency Planning, Equipment and infrastructure inspection and Maintenance.

ERTO is also responsible for the operational management of the Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork ERTO also operates the Motorway Traffic Control Centre on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland. 

The Motorway Traffic Control Centre operates several services including electronic messages to motorists, Emergency Roadside Telephones and Advanced Traffic Management Systems


Duties will include but are not limited to:


Supporting the Maintenance Manager in all civil related matters, to permit him/her to complete their duties within the Maintenance Department.


Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Regular reports on progress and civil related aspects of the Affected Property on both Dublin Tunnel & Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork.
  • On-going review of condition of assets through site drives, reviewing the data input into the MMS (Maintenance Management System) with particular emphasis on defects found.
  • Regular meetings with Subcontractors to discuss, develop and improve means of undertaking maintenance activities to ensure better performance and an extended life cycle for the asset.
  • Bi-weekly meetings between the Civil Engineer, M&E Technical Manager, the Maintenance Manager and Planning and Reliability Engineer to discuss maintenance works planned for the following week on relevant assets.
  • Regular reporting/analysis of accounts/costs.
  • Review civil design elements of capital expenditure works.
  • Compile tender packages & review of tender submissions for pricing civil elements of capex works.
  • Co-ordinate works with the QESH Department. Engage in quality audits and up-dating of contract documentation.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the maintenance department are in compliance with procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Responsible for managing a number of subcontractors & staff.
  • Preparing contract documentation including annual asset management plans, asset condition reports, forecasting documents, etc.
  • Preparing and reviewing method statements and risk assessments.
  • Upkeep of the company’s Safety File & Maintenance Management System to ensure that all assets are properly recorded and their relevant maintenance details are correct.
  • Attendance/on site management of scheduled and unscheduled tunnel closures in Dublin Tunnel & Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork.
  • Monitoring Preventative & Corrective maintenance activities for Capex opportunities
  • Develop, analyse and manage budget and expenditure reports.
  • Support and implement, in conjunction with the Quality team, ISO 9001, ISO14001, ISO 18001, ISO 55001 and ISO 27001.
  • Develop proposals to improve the Civil Engineering Assets and present these to the Client.

Person Specifications

Ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:

Qualifications and experience

  • Level 8 qualification in Engineering.
  • Experience in detailed report writing and document development.
  • Relevant experience with a background in transport infrastructure construction or maintenance (Tunnel experience a distinct advantage).
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Management and supervision of subcontractor works
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office, Projects, AUTOCAD, etc).
  • Strong communicational skills.
