Published by Engineers Ireland and the Geotechnical Society of Ireland, these documents are the result of the efforts of a series of working groups representing all parts of the industry and are intended to provide a consistent set of documents for use in ground investigations of all sizes and for all projects in Ireland.

 

The documents have used the Specification for Ground Investigation published by Thomas Telford as a basis but have been amended to suit Irish conditions. It is intended that they might be used with any of the forms of contract currently in use.

The documents have been produced in two parts:

 

Part I Guidance Notes provides useful advice to those preparing to undertake ground investigation and includes brief notes on essential aspects of ground investigation such as desk study and walkover that have often been neglected in the past. Part I includes a list of references that provide further guidance.

 

Part II Technical Specification and Bill of Quantities are intended to provide standard documents that can be referenced in ground investigation tenders and contracts, and it is anticipated that these will be used by all parties engaged in ground investigation work in Ireland from now on.
