Limerick engineer wins Chartered Engineer of the Year award

Michael Quilligan

Michael Quilligan, a civil engineer from Limerick has won the Chartered Engineer of the Year award for 2009. The award, sponsored by Beale and Company and Griffiths & Armour, sees the competition winner chosen from 460 engineers who applied for the Chartered Engineer title in the past year.

Michael submitted details of his involvement as Assistant Design Engineer in the restoration of The High Level Bridge that spans the River Tyne in Northern England during 2003 to 2006. Michael is currently a lecturer in Civil Engineering in University of Limerick.

Commenting on this year's competition, John Power highlighted the quality of the entries. "The short-listed finalists represent a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines as well as emphasising the depth and variety an engineering career can offer. The number who applied for Chartered Engineer in 2009 reflects the importance that engineers working in Ireland place on the industry's professional title and also enhances their position on the value chain"
