The President's Award is presented to an individual who has shown exceptional leadership skills in the advancement of engineering and society through their contribution to the industry and the profession. 

Congratulations to our 2018 President's Award reciepent, David Porter, Chartered Engineer, Divisional Roads Manager with the Northern Ireland Department for Infrastructure.

Peter Quinn, President of Engineers Ireland, commented:

As President of Engineers Ireland, I am delighted to award David Porter the President’s Award for 2018. David is currently the Divisional Roads Manager with the Northern Ireland Department for Infrastructure and was formerly the Chief Executive of Rivers Agency, the flood defence and drainage authority for Northern Ireland. David is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is a very active member of the Institution’s Northern Ireland Region where he has held the position of Chairman and has just finished his second three-year term as the Northern Ireland representative on their Council.
Throughout his career David has demonstrated the benefit of engineering to society. He is currently leading on over £0.5 billion of capital improvements to the strategic road network in Northern Ireland, while running an extensive rural road network. We in Engineers Ireland recognise David’s work and also his personal commitment to the wider engineering profession. This award is particularly noteworthy as it is being given to a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the year that they are celebrating their 200th year.
