Technical Innovation of the Year

The purpose of this award is to highlight innovative technological concepts developed and applied in Ireland that clearly demonstrate a real impact on society and an actual or future contribution to the economy.
This award will be presented to the organisation or engineer who has demonstrated excellence in the field of technology (product or service) and innovation in any area of business, healthcare, education or the arts.
This award category may especially appeal to research and development facilities, academic institutions, start-up businesses or global organisations with an Irish base.

Entry criteria

Within your submission, please detail how your project fits the key criteria (each criterion 500 words maximum).
1. Originality and ingenuity of the project
Your entry should demonstrate that it contains significant original engineering application or demonstrates ingenuity, innovation and creativity in achieving the best solution for the required specifications.
2. Technical Innovation
Please detail the specific technical qualities and innovation behind the engineering application or product. You may also wish to include drawings, pictures, photographs and other methods of illustration. Please include this information within your application and/or an appendix and submit via WeTransfer.
3. Adherence to the budget, quality and programme
Your entry should clearly demonstrate that it has met the budget parameters, quality requirements and time-lines relevant to the scope of the work in the specification.
4. Actual or potential contribution of the work to society and the economy
Your entry should clearly demonstrate the contribution to society and the local, regional, national or global economy.
5. Significance of the work as a benchmark of technology
Your entry should clearly demonstrate how new benchmarks have been set or current high standards continued, thereby raising the status and excellence of Irish innovation.
Please also include an executive summary of 200 words maximum to provide a succinct description of the entry and the principal elements of its claim for engineering excellence. This material is a key element in the judging process and may also be used for media purposes should your entry be shortlisted.


Entries should measurably demonstrate their success over a period of two years from 10 September 2016 to 10 September 2018. The award category is only open to organisations which operate on the island of Ireland.

How to enter

  • Please complete your submission online by 2pm on Monday 10 September 2018, detailing how your entry fits the five key criteria outlined earlier in this document. 
  • Your submission may include drawings, pictures, photographs and other methods of illustration. Please include this information within your application and/or an appendix and submit via WeTransfer. We require a maximum of six different colour photographs of professional presentation quality with each entry.
  • All entry material and supporting material should be carefully marked with the category, entry title and name of the organisation.
  • Once submitted, please proceed to the payment page to submit your entry fee of €250.  The application fee applies per project entered. We can only accept entries that are received with payment. Entry fees are non-refundable.
