Chemical & process engineering

Our network aims to enhance the lifelong career development and financial security of members working at all levels within the chemical, biochemical and process engineering profession.

About

About this Division

Our aim is to enhance the lifelong career development and financial security of members working at all levels within the chemical, biochemical and process engineering profession.

As a member, you can access information on recognised and promising chemical engineering processes and methods.  You can connect with a global network of intelligent, resourceful colleagues and find learning opportunities from recognised authorities.  We aim to help you move forward professionally and enrich the world we live in.

Who can join?

Membership is open to people who have an interest in and relevant experience in chemical engineering.

How to join

If you are already a member of Engineers Ireland, you can join any number of Regions, Divisions and Societies in our Members Area

It is free to join and, once you do, you can:

  • Use our discussion forums
  • Post comments on articles and blogs
  • Join the Contacts Network to locate and send messages to other professionals

Events

We run a series of evening lectures each year to promote the latest thinking in chemical and process engineering.

All our events allow members to make contacts and network with their peers and industry representatives, and contribute to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Get Involved.

Opportunities for involvement are varied and include:

  • Becoming a committee member
  • Joining task groups looking at strategic issues
  • Attending evening lectures or, indeed, delivering a presentation Volunteering to work with schools

All these activities offer you the chance to develop your personal skills, exposure to and communication with fellow professionals within industry and academia, many of whom are in senior positions.

Biofuels and Biomass Conversion

Date:  TBA
Time:  7.30pm
Venue:  Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4
Admission:  Free.  All welcome

About the speaker:  Dr Stephen Fitzpatrick.   Stephen graduated as a chemical engineer from the University of Manchester in 1973 and completed his doctorate there in Biochemical Engineering in 1975.  Stephen has over thirty five years experience in the Biological, Pharmaceutical and Chemical process industries and has been based in Boston for over thirty years working with many emerging Biotech firms.  During this time he developed and patented a unique Bio-fuels process based on the conversion of cellulosic biomass and is well published in this area and has progressed the process to a commercial scale.  Stephen is the president of DPS Biometics Inc and a director of the DPS Group.

About the event:  As part of this session Stephen will provide a brief overview of the Bio-Fuels industry, particularly in relation to the conversion of Biomass.   He will give details on his unique patented process and how it fits within the Global fuels market.  This session will give an insight into the potential for Biomass conversion but also the process of development and commercialisation of new processes from a chemical engineering perspective.

It is intended that this event be webcast
