Local Government Division

The Local Government Division is a dedicated network for engineers who work in or with local government.

About

About this network

The Local Government Division is a unique network that lends coherent focus to an interdisciplinary field.

We pull together expertise from the sciences, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, information and computer sciences, infrastructural planning and development, and local government bodies.

We are involved with sister institutions and associations, including:

We send our representatives to events and meetings at the Irish Academy of Engineering and various Irish Standards Institute Committees.

We also provide our members with a professional and social network for learning and developing potential business opportunities. Members can access relevant events and networking opportunities with peers and associated groups at events organised by the division.

We aim to provide a useful forum where engineering professionals and the general public can meet to discuss a range of local government issues, including:

  • Infrastructure provisions
  • Planning and development
  • Water services
  • Waste water services
  • Road design, construction and maintenance
  • Traffic management
  • Waste management
  • Energy
  • Environmental protection and sustainability
  • Housing and community design, development and maintenance
  • Maintenance management
  • Procurement
