Learning Objectives

This course will provide an insight to Industrial Steam and Condensate System application, selection, operation and maintenance. It is an introductory course that will focus on Industrial Steam and Condensate System behaviour, steam traps and components within the system and how these are interconnected.

Delegates will gain knowledge in understanding the steam cycle and how it relates to overall process system effectiveness and identify and understand the key components of a steam distribution system.

The primary objective is to give each delegate a fundamental knowledge of the basic principles of steam and condensate systems. It will look at an overview of steam generation and why steam is used and focus on the various steam system components. The components are steam traps, air venting, pressure reduction, temperature control and condensate removal and reuse. An explanation of the important technical concepts relating to steam quality and the use of clean steam.

The course will cover, but is not limited to

  • Properties of steam
  • Steam generation
  • Plantwide distribution of steam
  • Steam and pump traps operating principles
  • Air venting
  • Steam system ancillaries
  • Selection of steam traps
  • Condensate removal and recovery
  • Flash steam
  • System wide Energy Loss

Who should attend?

This course is focused to the needs of chemical, instrumentation, maintenance, and mechanical engineers and technicians involved in the selection, sizing, specification, installation, operation and maintenance of Industrial Steam and Condensate Systems. The industries that this course would be relevant to are the biopharma, food and beverage, water and waste water, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing and power generation.
