Road Design - Rules of thumb guidance for Professionals
Getting the details correct
Seminar overview
This one-day seminar organised by the Roads and Transportation Society of Engineers Ireland will cover a range of design related topics, specific to the challenges that exist in Ireland that are critical considerations in the development and the design of urban and rural transport projects. It is a follow up to the very successful Road Design seminars held in 2016 and 2017.
(NOTE: It is not a pre-requisite to have attended the previous two years' seminars, as the range of material to be covered have been specifically tailored to provide attendees with NEW and relevant topics necessary to keep up to speed with latest legislation, industry knowledge and best practice.)
The seminar will focus on providing attendees with some of the fundamental design principles that are necessary in securing planning approval and to progress transport related schemes through the detailed design and construction phases, as well as covering a number of case studies associated with typical transport projects not previously covered in 2016 and 2017 seminars. The objective of the proposed seminar programme is to give attendees, both graduate and experienced designers, the overarching design principles necessary to develop transport schemes through the various approval stages coupled with an understanding of the various pitfalls that can materialise during a project’s life cycle.
Presentations will address various stages of design development, from environmental considerations, budgeting and pricing, contract pitfalls to utility and public realm issues. Place and function will also be discussed with the intention of design for liveable spaces.
The panel of speakers for the seminar includes professionals from leading organisations in both the public and private sector who hold a wealth of knowledge and experience in the area of road design.
This CPD seminar promises to be an interesting and informative day not to be missed.
Seminar aim
The aim of the seminar will be to inform delegates involved in transport projects, both in the public and private sector, of the latest best practice in transport developments as well as design techniques, standards and policies ensuring their knowledge base remains current.
