Overview

Delivering presentations can be a source of great anxiety for many people and yet is a skill which is increasingly important in the modern work environment. From delivering a presentation to your work colleagues, to updating senior management on the progress of a task force, to presenting to a community on a new engineering project in their locality, effective presentations can have a major impact on the buy-in from stakeholders.

Course aim

To improve the presentation skills of participants by understanding the key components to delivering effective presentations, knowing the barriers that exist, developing strategies to overcome them and practising some of the skills in a safe and positive environment.

Learning objectives

On completion of the programme, participants will have:

  • Understood and practised basic presentation skills
  • Learned about the barriers to effective presentations and devised strategies to overcome them
  • Learned and practised some techniques for dealing with common situations that arise during presentations
  • Delivered a portion of an effective presentation to a peer group and received constructive feedback

Programme

  • Identifying the components of an effective presentation
  • Learning styles and how to accommodate these in a presentation
  • Understanding the critical communication skills required for an effective presentation
  • Knowing the barriers to delivering effective presentations and developing strategies to overcome them
  • Identifying the key verbal and non-verbal elements to effective delivery
  • Handling specific audience types and challenging questions

Trainer's profile

Dave Conway has over 25 years’ experience as a trainer and manager in the education, semi-conductor and financial services sectors. He is an executive and business coach, as well as a consultant providing a range of training and facilitation services across the business spectrum.

Dave has worked as a training professional and people manager and has delivered a range of training programmes from governance and compliance to residential management skills courses. 
 
Dave’s delivery style is highly interactive and his experience in facilitating adult learning over many years has proven itself time and time again. From team building through to people management, each course is filled with fun and challenging learning, and elicits the unique experience of the participants.
 
Dave has a graduate diploma in training and development (awarded by the University of Leicester), a diploma in executive and personal coaching (awarded by ECSL), on top of his original qualification in electronics (awarded by Dublin Institute of Technology). All of the above have been awarded with distinction.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Confirmation is subject to event fee being finalised. Cancellation fees calculated at 50% of the estimated total bill will be charge for confirmed bookings cancelled less than 5 working days prior to the date of the planned event. A replacement person can attend instead. Cancellations made the day prior to an event will be charged 75% of the total estimated bill. No-shows will be charged the full fee. All cancellations must be confirmed in writing by email. Engineers Ireland will not be liable for any costs in the event of a course being re-scheduled.  This applies, but is not limited, to any travelling, subsistence or consequential expenses incurred by delegates.
