This advanced-level course covers the use of Autodesk Vehicle Tracking and Autocad Civil 3D for the complete 2D and 3D design of a roundabout.

Learning objectives

The primary objective of this courseware is to teach the student the recommended workflows and basic skills needed to create, model and modify junctions and roundabouts using Autodesk Vehicle Tracking and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Upon completion of the course, the student will be proficient in creating and working with the design process, and be able to create and edit a roundabout design in 2D and 3D.

Course content

2D Geometry Design

  • Create and edit roundabout design standards
  • Create and modify roundabout geometry
  • Add islands, pedestrian crossing and rumble strips
  • Identify and analyse fastest line speeds
  • Edit geometry to satisfy safety requirements
  • Edit geometry and add entry flares to increase capacity

3D Geometry Design

  • Create design profiles for channel edges
  • Set up tilted plane to allow drainage
  • Create roundabout corridor
  • Analyse finished surface for ponding
  • Analyse vehicle swepth paths
  • Check sight distance

Who should attend

The target audience for this class includes experienced Civil Engineers, technicians or draughting personnel working with Civil 3D, and having a firm grasp on the fundamental features of Civil 3D and engineering principles.

Students should have completed either (a) a Civil 3D Road Design or Overlay Design Essentials course or (b) be of equivalent proficiency prior to attending this course, and have experience with civil engineering processes and terminology.
