About the event

Claridges Hotel is a Victorian red brick building with a 1920’s art deco steel frame extension. The proposed basement is to extend across the entire footprint of the 1920’s extension, approximately 1250m2, which is founded on a reinforced concrete raft slab, one of the first buildings to use this type of construction. The client’s brief was to provide an additional 5 storeys below ground without closing the hotel for a single day as part of a 5-year plan to enhance the hotel.

The proposal put forward by McGee’s uses a number of techniques that, whilst have all been used before individually, they had not been used on a large scale in combination and more significantly, in a live building. This presentation will detail the challenges and innovative methods used to deliver the project.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and drinks and networking in the ICE Bar afterwards
