About the speaker

Professor Frank Kirkland has vast experience in working with and designing for Rolls-Royce. He is the one of the foremost experts in the evolution of modern aircraft jet engines. Frank will share his journey as an engineer and some of the exciting developments in jet engine technology past present and future.

Frank is also involved in the Trent 1000 TEN engine development programme. This engine, which incorporates proven next generation technology from the Trent XWB, will be capable of powering all versions of the Boeing 787. The differences in engine mountings entail discussions with the structural specialists in Boeing about the engine loads. Looking further forward, Frank has been working on the gearbox for the UltraFan™, a geared design that will offer at least 25 per cent improvement in fuel burn compared with the first generation of Rolls-Royce Trent engines.

Free and all are welcome to attend, however booking is required for this event. Please use the booking link provided.

There will be a networking reception for all guests from 5.30pm in Riddel Hall, with the lecture starting promptly at 6.00pm in the Isdell Courtyard.
