About the event

Summertime overheating in UK homes is a serious and growing problem. It can have serious consequences for health and well-being, especially for the most vulnerable in society. But how can overheating be a problem in the cool maritime climate of the UK?
This talk, co-hosted by Engineers Ireland West Region and the MaREI Centre in the Ryan Institute at NUI Galway, will explain the ‘perfect storm’ of  climatic, technical, economic, demographic, cultural and personal factors that lead to overheating. It will describe the experimental, modelling and field survey work that brought the problem to the attention of the UK Committee on Climate Change, which has call on the government to act.
