  • Time(s)
    10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Venue
Dublin Waste to Energy, Pigeon House Road, Dublin 4

About the site

The Dublin Waste-to-Energy project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between Dublin City Council (acting on behalf of the four Dublin Local Authorities) and Covanta, a world leader in providing sustainable waste and energy solutions, to provide a sustainable treatment of waste that cannot be reused or recycled. The Dublin Waste to Energy Facility will process at least 600,000 tonnes of solid waste that cannot be sensibly recycled, moving the Dublin region away from dependence on landfilling waste. The site safely converts non-recyclable waste into approximately 60 megawatts of electricity which is exported into Ireland’s national grid – enough to power 80,000 homes. It is capable of generating 90 megawatts of district heating - enough heat for 50,000 homes. Covanta will be working with Dublin City Council in exploring ways to deliver this resource to homes or businesses in the vicinity of the facility.

About the visit

The tour will commence at 10.00am and last approximately two hours.  A presentation will be shown to visitors before being brought on a site walk-down of the facilities by engineers.

As there is limited parking on site a bus will be organised with two pickup points, the Red Cow Luas car park (8.30am) or Engineers Ireland (9.30 am). All visitors must arrive on the bus and following the tour all will be returned to the pickup points.

Visitors on the tour are required to bring their own PPE (HiViz jacket, boots, hard hat, safety glasses and gloves).
