Marguerite Sayers is a graduate of University College Cork and holds a BE in Electrical Engineering. She also holds a number of post graduate diplomas in accounting and finance, project management and business coaching. Marguerite, up to May 2018, was Managing Director of ESB Networks and very recently became the Executive Director, Customer Solutions, ESB.

Marguerite has 27 years’ experience with ESB, progressing from their graduate programme in 1991, through a number of middle management and senior management positions. At an early stage in her career, Marguerite was entrusted with selecting the appropriate framework for the National Network Renewal Plan, in order to maximise the benefit for a €300 million investment. Since that time she has led a number of projects including the delivery of a €400 mllion special dividend in 2013/14 to Government through the sale and refinancing of generation assets.

Marguerite was Managing Director of ESB Networks for the past three years. ESB Networks is a separate limited company within the ESB group, which is primarily an electricity distribution company providing electricity services to all 2.4 million customers in the Republic of Ireland. Her role included managing both operating and capital expenditure of circa €1 billion per annum, delivering transmission and distribution projects to support the Irish economy, providing and maintaining electricity connection to every premises in ROI, overseeing the performance and safety of the 3,300 staff in ESB Networks and delivering the 5-year price review contract agreed with the Commission for Regulation of Utilities. She works with a wide range of policy, regulatory and industry stakeholders to meet the needs of customers, society and the economy and to ensure that stakeholder relationships are maintained and fostered.

Marguerite has served as a board member of the Energy Association of Ireland, was selected in the Silicon Republic 2014 Top 100 Women in STEM, was twice named among WXN’s Top 25 Award, and is a member of both Council and the Executive Board of Engineers Ireland. She was formally elected Vice President of Engineers Ireland on 31 May 2017.
