International Engineer of the Year Award

 

The International Engineer of the Year Award aims to acknowledge the contribution of the Irish engineering diaspora by recognising the excellent work of Irish engineers around the world.

Siobhan Kennedy, Chartered Engineer Siobhan Kennedy graduated from NUIG in 2009 with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. After working as a site engineer on major construction projects in Australia, Siobhan travelled to Haiti to support reconstruction following an earthquake in 2010. Siobhan moved to Nepal in 2014, where she established and managed an internship and graduate programme for young engineers, as well as supporting the Nepal Engineering Council in the development of a professional title for engineers under the Rural Access Programme.
 
Since the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, which killed almost 9,000 people and destroyed more than 810,000 homes, Siobhan has been supporting coordination efforts; initially in the Shelter Cluster as Technical Coordinator and currently as Recovery Advisor with the Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform.
