A 19-part sustainability series focused on engineers’ role in developing more sustainable cities and communities will draw to a close today with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications and Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD joining the final event of Engineers Ireland’s Sustainability Grand Tour series.

The Sustainability Grand Tour has brought together thousands of Engineers Ireland’s members to explore how engineers can integrate sustainability concepts into their projects at all stages, from design to end-of-life. The free-to-attend weekly webinar series has attracted a variety of national and international experts and covered a diverse range of topics such as transport, construction, housing, energy efficiency, UN SDGs, education, manufacturing, sustainable energy, and biodiversity.

Today, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications and Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD will join the final event in the series, which will focus on engineering sustainability into public policy. Commencing online at 1:00pm, Maurice Buckley, President of Engineers Ireland, Liam Ryan, EirGrid Chief Innovation and Planning Officer, Siobhán Kennedy from Engineers Ireland’s West Region and Bernice Doyle from Engineers Ireland’s Energy, Environment and Climate Action Division will join Minister Ryan for a live panel discussion, which is free for Engineers Ireland’s members and the public to attend.

Maurice Buckley, President of Engineers Ireland, commented: “Climate change and biodiversity loss are possibly the most fundamental problems we face as a society. Engineers Ireland has been building momentum in action on sustainability, from the Declaration of a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency to the publication of the Sustainability Framework to this Sustainability Grand Tour. The interdisciplinary, collaborative aspect of the Tour has been a major success. I would like to thank Minister Ryan and our expert panel of speakers for sharing their experience and we look forward to further collaborations which will be vital for action on climate change and biodiversity loss.”
