Employers will see their graduates meet professional standards, adopt a structured approach to Learning & Development and manage their time and work-load better as well as improving their interactions with colleagues and clients.

The specific learning objectives are to provide recent graduates with:

• An understanding of the required approaches and behaviours of a new recruit to an engineering-led organisation
• Techniques for ensuring work is delivered on time
• Methods for handling negativity or disappointment and seeking constructive feedback to learn from
• Frameworks for foreseeing likely issues, asking appropriate questions and identifying solutions along with problems
• An appreciation of the nature and importance of team-work, liaising with clients and contributing to projects managed by other colleagues
• The environment to practice and improve communications, technical writing and analytical skills
• The skills and tools to optimise Excel as a valuable aid for professional engineering
• An awareness of appropriate dress, use of language, respect for others etc.

Programme Structure

Participants will be guided by experienced engineers as their tutors, and will meet like-minded peers.

Six core classroom-based modules are delivered on a monthly basis (September to February) at a convenient location. Class modules are supplemented via an on-line Learning Management System. Participants will be expected to consider and prepare course-work in advance of each of the six modules in order to maximize learning. A short reflective paper will be completed for each module to ascertain learning acquired and how it can be applied in the workplace.

All participants complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire. This helps learners identify: their particular talents and strengths; how others may see them as well as their potential areas for growth.
