Shortlisted presentations

The Best Presentation is one of 12 awards which celebrates the extraordinary achievements of those nominated. This category extends to all regions and sectors of the profession and shines a light on the contribution that individuals make in their work through delivering outstanding technical presentations to Engineers Ireland members during the 2017-2018 lecture season. The presentations shortlisted for the award are: ‘Structures Asset Management on Auckland's Motorways’, presented by Liam Coleman, chartered engineer, principal bridge engineer, OPUS International Consultancy. Nominated by the Structures and Construction division. ‘Industry in Our Region - Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon’, presented by Barry Lowe, chartered engineer, engineering manager, Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon. Nominated by the Thomond region. ‘Earthworks Classification and Ground Improvement Techniques’, presented by Conor O’Donnell, chartered engineer, managing director, AGL Consulting.  Nominated by the Roads and Transportation society. Engineering Futures bursary

One of the key issues facing the engineering sector in Ireland today and into the future, as Project Ireland 2040 gets under way, is recruiting and retaining sufficient numbers of young, talented students to fulfil the engineering demands and potential skills gap of the future. With this in mind, Griffiths & Armour recently launched ‘Engineering Futures’, a bursary initiative aimed at supporting second year students studying civil, structural, mechanical, electrical or building engineering in the Republic of Ireland. The bursary is offered in association with, and support from, the Association of Consulting Engineers Ireland and Engineers Ireland. Engineering students who are successfully awarded the Engineering Futures bursary will benefit from:
  • A guaranteed internship with an ACEI member consulting engineering practice in Ireland;
  • A bursary of €2,500 per annum for up to four years;
  • A range of unique experiences through Griffiths & Armour’s professional network and via their close partnership with ACEI and Engineers Ireland;
  • A positive profile within the profession by sharing your journey and inspiring the next generation of engineers.
This is a great opportunity for any aspiring Engineer. Aside from the financial support they can expect to gain hands-on experience in an engineering consultancy firm. The Griffiths & Armour Engineering Futures bursary will also place them at the heart of the engineering community, raising their profile and giving them the opportunity to work with two leading representative engineering bodies, Engineers Ireland and ACEI.
