Engineers Ireland’s West region, which represents engineers in Galway, Roscommon and Mayo, is to host an informative course that will explore the contribution of the engineering profession to the development and protection of our culture and our heritage, with a particular focus on the area’s local heritage. The course, which will conclude in the middle of this year’s Engineers Week, will take place over five weeks at Galway – Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) in February and March 2017. The annual evening course covers a different topic each year, and this year’s topic has been chosen to celebrate Galway City’s selection as European Capital of Culture 2020. An excellent line-up of speakers has been put together from Ireland and abroad, covering areas such as archaeology, conservation, industrial heritage, the arts and urban redevelopment. The course is being run as part of the Engineers Ireland West region’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme of events, and attendance is open to all, not just engineers. It is being held over five consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm in Room 903 in GMIT, Dublin Road, Galway, starting on Tuesday February 7 and concluding on Tuesday March 7.
