About the event

Engineers Ireland North-East and Midland regions are delighted to co-host this site visit to Bord na Mona’s Windfarm in Mount Lucas, Daingean, Co Offaly.  Located on 1,100 hectares of cutaway peatlands near Daingean, Co Offaly, it was commissioned in 2014 and has 28 3MW Siemens 3.0DD -101 turbines in operation with the capacity to generate 84MW of electricity, or enough power for over 45,000 homes. Mount Lucas Windfarm displaces 125,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases every year helping Ireland meet its renewable energy target of 16% by 2020.

During the course of the tour, our guide will explain how the turbines were built and how they work.  They will be available to answer any questions the group may have about wind farms.
