The country’s biggest keynote recruitment event for qualified professionals and graduates was launched this week by Jobs Minister Richard Bruton – and this year’s event will focus on engineering and technology. Jobs in these sectors will be highlighted at the Career Zoo, which takes place at the Convention Centre Dublin on September 14. Hundreds of PhD and postdoctoral candidates will also be attending, as part of the Irish Research Council's annual symposium hosted at the career event. “Ireland has experienced a huge shift in the jobs market over the past few years, but positions from technology sectors are definitely on the increase,” said Career Zoo director, Brian Ó hOisín. “It’s great that so many indigenous and multinational technology firms will be coming to Career Zoo to recruit professionals and graduates, and there’s growing demand for applicants from the ICT, pharmaceutical, biomedical and engineering sectors.” Maroun Eddé, CEO of Murex, a trading, risk management and financial solutions firm who are sponsoring the event said: “Ireland provides a pool of highly skilled engineers for Murex.  Currently, we’ve 80 opportunities for computer engineers and financial software consultants for our Dublin and Paris offices and we’re also recruiting for our other offices around the world.” Amazon Web Services will also be actively recruiting for its Dublin offices. The event sponsor will be bringing an engineering challenge for techies to battle out on the day. The group will also be giving out Kindles and Amazon vouchers to successful challengers. Positions that Amazon Data Services Ireland Ltd will be recruiting for include: web services cloud support engineers, systems engineers, software development engineers, security engineers, IT graduates, technical operations support engineers, data centre engineers and network engineers. Admission is free but people are advised to register in advance at www.careerzoo.ie. Organisations recruiting at the event include: Accenture, Aon, Boston Scientific, CarTrawler, Certus, Ericsson, Hays, Indaver, Johnson & Johnson, Maxim Integrated, OpenHydro, Origina, SIG, Taxback.com, Unum and Workday. Education providers will also be showcasing courses and upskilling opportunities for participants on the day. The event is sponsored by IrishJobs.ie, Amazon Web Services, Murex and Pramerica.
