The creation of 55 new jobs in the engineering sector has been announced under the Government’s ‘Succeed in Ireland’ initiative. Sound & Sea Technologies Inc (SST), a privately owned, Washington-based company, is to recruit the new staff for its European HQ in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork. The company provides a range of ocean and marine engineering services for the analysis, engineering development, fabrication and installation of undersea systems. SST provides site investigation services from biologic assessments to environmental impact studies, and designs and installs ocean systems on the surface, mid-water or below the seafloor. Applications include port and coastal security, fibre optic and power cable systems, pipelines and terminals, offshore solar, wave and tidal projects. In setting up its European base, SST will establish two operations: Sound & Sea Europe (20 jobs) and Marine Micropile Technology (35 jobs). Both businesses will be co-located in Ringaskiddy on the Irish Marine and Energy Resources Cluster campus. Sound & Sea Europe will provide engineering services in ocean engineering, ocean renewables and critical Infrastructure Protection. Marine Micropile Technology will be headquartered in Ireland, with responsibility for all R&D and business development of micropile anchoring systems. The company was introduced to Ireland through ConnectIreland, the company responsible for delivering the ‘Succeed in Ireland’ initiative, as part of the Action Plan for Jobs in association with the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and IDA Ireland. The announcement was made today (4 October) at the third Global Irish Economic Forum in Dublin Castle, which is organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, to foster economic growth and job-creation. Connect Ireland was an initiative of the 2011 Global Irish Economic Forum. In total, 83 jobs for Cork and Dublin were announced at the event by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton. Gilmore said that ConnectIreland, along with the Gathering and former US president Bill Clinton’s ‘Invest in Ireland’ Forum, was one of the many successful initiatives to emerge from the Global Irish Economic Forum. “Today, some 260 leading Irish and Irish-connected figures from across the globe are gathered for the 2013 Global Economic Forum, which is very much focused on opportunities for job creation,” he said. “I’m very confident that, working together with our diaspora, we can increase exports, create jobs and build on Ireland’s recovery.”
