An Introduction to NEC3 is a full one-day course intended for both public and private sector companies whom are currently working with or are interested in working with NEC3 forms of contract in the future. This course is intended for participants with varying experience in using NEC3 Contracts and will provide an in-depth understanding on the various NEC3 Contracts available for use. The course will also look at contentious issues that participants could face in a NEC project, such as issues pertaining to time and payment. Core clauses which deal with such issues will be discussed with a final discussion on Dispute Resolution and terminating a NEC contract..

Course Aim

This course is intended for anyone who is (or is likely to be) involved in any way with the delivery of NEC3 contracts, particularly the Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC).  The course will also introduce delegates to the NEC3 suite of contracts available.

The objectives of the NEC3 training include:

  • Ensuring that participants understand implications of the contractual terms of the NEC3 contract
  • Ensuring that participants understand the contractual mechanisms of the NEC3 contracts
  • Ensuring that participants understand the impact and effect of the procedures as set out in the NEC3 contracts and the obligations within them
  • Developing an understanding of contractual pitfalls in the standard forms and addressing common misconceptions in the NEC3 contracts
  • Improving the timely completion of projects

  1. Introduction to NEC3
  2. NEC3 (ECC) Core and Secondary Clauses;
  3. Roles and Responsibilities;
  4. Strategy for choosing the correct contract;
  5. Design and the Works Information;
  6. Programming;
  7. Defects and Quality Management;
  8. Payment;
  9. Change Management; and
  10. Dispute Resolution and Termination

Learning Outcomes

After this course, participants should be better able to

  • Understand the NEC3 ethos;
  • Understand NEC3’s novel terminology;
  • Appreciate the importance of proactive risk management using Early Warning Notices and the Change Management System
  • Understand the various different payment mechanisms across the NEC3 main options
  • Plan for and successfully deliver an NEC3 contract

This course is open to all whom are affiliated or are interested in the NEC3 Forms of Contract and would specifically be useful to Employers, Employer’s Representatives, Students, Graduates, Engineers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Contractors and Subcontractors whom want to learn more about the NEC3.

Cancellation fees calculated at 50% of the estimated total bill will be charge for confirmed bookings cancelled less than 5 working days prior to the date of the planned event. A replacement person can attend instead. Cancellations made the day prior to an event will be charged 75% of the total estimated bill. No-shows will be charged the full fee. All cancellations must be confirmed in writing by email. Engineers Ireland will not be liable for any costs in the event of a course being re-scheduled.  This applies, but is not limited, to any travelling, subsistence or consequential expenses incurred by delegates.
