About the event

On the 19th February 2000, the electricity industry in Ireland took a new path, as competition in the supply of electricity to large electricity customers arrived.  Five years later,  full market opening allowed all electricity customers, regardless of size, to choose their own supplier.  Competition has fundamentally changed the structure of the industry in Ireland for the good.  Now nearly 20 years later the industry is at a critical juncture, electricity generation is responsible for around 20% of Ireland’s Greenhouse Gas emission but has the potential to reduce Ireland’s emission by up to 60%.   This talk by Peter O’Shea, Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at ESB will consider how electricity can go from 20% of the problem to 60% of the solution underlining the strategic importance of the electricity sector.

About the speaker

Peter O’Shea was appointed Head of ESB Corporate and Regulatory Affairs in 2018. Prior to this, Peter was Head of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Strategy.
