Engineers Ireland offers sessions with career consultants based in a number of regions. These sessions will help you to develop your career opportunities, regardless of the level you're at. If you are seeking employment, planning a career change or looking to develop certain skills, our career consultants can help you along the way.

Dublin - Dr. John Butler

Dr. John Butler

John holds a Doctorate in Business Studies from DCU along with Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Industrial Engineering degrees from UCD. He is an experienced engineer, manager and director in a wide range of technical and management positions.

John has worked extensively in the multinational and public sectors in a broad range of industries and in a wide range of functions including human resource management, learning and development, quality management and operations management. He lectures on human resource management and operations management. He has extensive experience working with engineers of all levels in supporting their career development.

Cork - Edel Rigas

Edel Rigas is a Coaching Psychologist focusing on career and performance management across both the private and public sectors.

Working predominantly with experienced professionals who have reached a critical point in their careers, Edel supports them in moving forward in a business environment that is throwing up many new challenges for both individuals and organisations.

These new challenges require new tactics and career changes now require a more strategically-oriented 'business' approach than before. For engineers this also means the full package of technical capabilities and 'soft' skills - in equal measure.

Edel has assisted many high profile industry leaders in Ireland and the UK to face their challenges and successfully transition their careers to the next phase.

Midlands - Padraig O’Connor

Padraig holds a BEng in Electronic Engineering from DCU, a Diploma in Executive, Business and Personal Coaching along with multiple professional qualifications related to management, training delivery, psychometric assessment and workshop facilitation.

His knowledge and experience comes from working in senior roles that include line management, project management, training delivery, career coaching, business development, and workshop facilitation.

He holds membership with the Association for Coaching (AC) and is registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) for the administration of personality and aptitude tests. He is also a solutions consultant for Harrison Assessment.

Padraig has extensive experience working with a wide range of clients across all industry sectors and at all levels from graduate to senior management.

Clare/South West - Aidan Kelly

Aidan Kelly
Dip Career Coaching, Dip HRM, BA (Politics/Economics)

Aidan has been coaching and mentoring people at all levels for the past 15 years through his work in recruitment and human resources. Degree qualified with post graduate diplomas in both Human Resource Management (University of Limerick) and Career Coaching (Dublin Institute of Technology), he has significant practical knowledge of the engineering job market from both the employer and candidate’s perspectives. Skilled at assessing people’s requirements and assisting them to fulfil their career objectives, he believes the benefits of career coaching are clear:
