The winning team designed and built a solar chip prototype that can charge a mobile phone. This was a fantastic project that the judges thought demonstrated exceptional engineering aptitude at a young age. They also commented that the prototype was an engineering concept that would be highly desirable on the market. Well done to these brilliant Young Engineers!

Project Name – The Basketball Bin

Team – AJAJAA

The Running Up team, AJAJAA, came up ‘The Basketball Bin’ - a solution to litter in their community (and potentially all communities). Their bin provides a fun way to throw away litter: you aim the rubbish at the bin, which is fitted with a hoop, a camera and lasers, and score points for shooting the litter in the bin. It is a 'Smart Bin' that encourages people to keep their community clean.
