Guidelines for making a complaint about the conduct of a member

All members of Engineers Ireland must comply with our Code of Ethics. Members of the public who are dissatisfied with service received from a member of Engineers Ireland may make a formal complaint to the institution.

How to make a formal complaint

Step one

  • Ascertain that the engineer in question is indeed a member of Engineers Ireland by contacting our membership team on +353 1 6651334 or email membership@engineersireland.ie

Step two

Upon receiving confirmation that the engineer is a member, a formal letter of complaint should be sent:

  • addressed to the Secretary of the Ethics and Disciplinary Board, Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4;
  • signed by the complainant;
  • clearly outlining the circumstances that gave rise to the complaint;
  • highlight what clause(s) of our code the member has in your view breached;
  • include copies of all relevant supporting documentation;
  • detail any prospective or ongoing legal proceedings in relation to the matters raised.

It should be noted that the complaint in full will be copied to the member concerned for response.

Engineers Ireland cannot deal with complaints against engineers who are not members of the institution.
