At the recent Engineers Ireland Annual General Meeting, which was held in Clyde Road on May 29, the Ballot for Council election details were confirmed. As mentioned in the 5 June issue, the new president of Engineers Ireland is Regina Moran, Chartered Engineer and chief executive offer of Fujitsu (Ireland) Ltd. She holds an engineering qualification from Waterford Institute of Technology, a diploma in Electronic Engineering from Cork Institute of Technology, two certificates in finance and business organisation and a first-class honours Master’s in Business Administration from Dublin City University. Moran is the third woman to hold the role in Engineers Ireland’s 179-year history. The vice-presidents for the 2014-2015 term are Bill Grimson and Dermot Byrne.

  • Bill Grimson BA BAI Eur Ing CEng FIEI is the former head of the Department of Control Systems Engineering in DIT Kevin Street and former academic registrar at the institute. He is a past chair of the Membership and Qualification Board of Engineers Ireland and is currently a member of the Board of Examiners and the Executive Board of Engineers Ireland.
  • Dermot Byrne BE MBA MEngSc CEng FIEI is the former managing director of ESB Networks and former chief executive of EirGrid. He is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland, a Distinguished Member of the international electricity body CIGRE, and he has recently been awarded chartered director status by the Institute of Directors in London.
In addition, the following chartered members were declared elected to the Engineers Ireland Council for a three-year term: Cormac Bradley, Mary Carr and Orla Lonergan.
  • Cormac Bradley BSc CEng FIEI is the former chair of the Civil Division of Engineers Ireland and has been on Council since 2011.
  • Mary Carr BSc (Eng) Dip Eng P.Grad.Dip CEng FIEI is the risk & continuity planning co-ordinator Bord Gáis Networks Health, Safety, Quality and Environment Department.
  • Orla Lonergan BSc (Eng) Dip Eng IntPE (Irl) CEng MIEI is the current chair of the Club Committee and has served as chair of the Structures & Construction Division (2009-2012). She was awarded the President Prize in 1996.
