Background
An Amendment to S.R. 21:2014 – Guidance on the use of I.S. EN 13242:2002+A1:2004 – Aggregates for unbound and hydraulically bound materials for use in civil engineering work and road construction, (prepared by the NSAI Roads Standards Committee (RSC) Aggregates Panel in conjunction with members of the government's Steering Group on Radon Preventative Measures in new buildings), completed a public inquiry process in July 2015.
Second public inquiry required
Following public inquiry a process of comments resolution ensued and a second public inquiry was deemed necessary to include further technical revisions to S.R. 21:2014 / A1:201X

These revisions to S.R. 21:2014+A1:201X Annex E - Guidance for specifying aggregates for unbound granular fill (hardcore) for use under concrete floors and footpaths are as follows:
- an optional structural unbound granular fill (hardcore) material for use at depths greater than 900 mm depending on site conditions, settlement potential and other engineering factors;
- clarification of inference of test results/assessments between Annex E materials;
- revision of nomenclature of unbound granular fill( hardcore) materials specified in Annex E;
- relevant editorial revisions as a result of technical revisions.
