The Academic society is a special interest group for engineers who lecture or conduct research in third-level institutions or graduate students who aspire to careers in academia.
Its mission is to promote the advancement of academic standards in engineering and facilitate and organise activities for key academic groups. It aims to develop and disseminate a body of knowledge for engineers working within the academic community which will also serve those engineering professionals with an interest in academic topics. Members can benefit from: Networking with colleagues Networking with industry experts Keeping up to date with the latest events, technical presentations and access to research and support material. Attending events, courses, site visits and customised seminars to advance their continuous professional development.

Hydrogen is increasingly seen as an important element of future ‘energy landscape’ and while its production through renewable means offers great promise, it is apparent that such sources may not be sufficient to meet expected demands in the short to medium term. It is important, therefore, to consider how this ‘gap’ may be bridged most responsibly by the efficient use of non-renewable resources, writes UCD's Keelan Glennane.
As the world transitions to a clean, sustainable way of living, tidal energy has emerged as a reliable, predictable form of renewable energy that can be used to power our communities and industry, write Dr William Finnegan, Dr Thomas Flanagan, Patrick Cronin and Professor Jamie Goggins.
As the market for novel biopharmaceutical products grow, so does the demand for productive, reliable manufacturing processes which can be rapidly developed at a large scale. Chromatography, a foundational process in pharmaceutical manufacturing has seen increased process efficiency and productivity with the extension from traditional batch to continuous counter-current operation, writes Niamh O'Connell.
In Part IV of the report on the seminal national conference on what is Ireland’s greatest challenge as we move towards reopening and into the post-pandemic world, former president of Engineers Ireland PJ Rudden examines the area of sustainable travel and behavioural change, as well as the conference conclusions.
Being a member of the Engineers Ireland community shows your commitment to delivering excellence in engineering. As our member, we support your professional development and help you to expand your career at home and abroad.
