Renewable energy is central to the government’s climate action ambitions. The current Programme for Government has set out specific targets and actions and renewable energy is also central to the Climate Action Plan 2021.

In order to achieve the ambition set out in CAP21 there will be the need to develop a range of renewables, and supporting technologies including solar, bioenergy, green hydrogen, interconnectors and storage. It will also entail using renewable sources across electricity, heat and transport.

The 2022 Renewable Energy Summit will provide a valuable opportunity to bring together the key stakeholders from across the energy sector, and those who interact with the energy sector to discuss how the contribution from renewable energy can be maximised and implemented most effectively. The objective is to create a genuine in-depth understanding of the alternative paths open to Ireland in increasing the contribution from renewable energy.

Themes to be discussed at the 2022 summit:

  • European renewable energy policy developments
  • Pathways to 80% renewable electricity by 2030
  • Meeting Ireland’s offshore wind energy targets
  • How do we get flexibility in the electricity system to deliver 80% renewables?
  • Decarbonising Ireland’s gas network
  • Renewable fuels in transport
  • Power-to-X and energy storage
  • Planning and community engagement
  • Future role for green hydrogen
