As many members may be aware, following the development of the 2021–2023 Engineers Ireland Statement of Strategic Intent, our Council decided it was timely to review the governance of the institution to ensure Engineers Ireland delivers on its core purpose and in the best interests of the profession.

Following a phased review and consultation process managed by PWC, a Final Report of the Governance Review was created with recommendations for a future Governance Model, which includes 12 overarching recommendations for prioritisation and implementation.

Currently, the Governance Review Oversight Group of Council is guiding the implementation of the recommendations. They include: clarifying matters reserved for Council and matters delegated to the Executive Board; prioritising discussion on strategic planning, policy and membership matters at Council meetings; documenting the role of the President and Director General; updating Terms of Reference, tenure and reporting arrangements for all Committees and Boards, and providing induction training to help Council members and the Executive Board understand their role and function.

The Governance Review section of our website contains up-to-date information on the Governance Review and details on work completed to date. Members are encouraged to review this webpage and associated documentation to gain further insight into the structure and roles within our institution.
