Ed McCann, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, ICE, (pictured 2nd left), delivered his Presidential Address on 5 October 2022 to members of the ICE Republic of Ireland Branch and members of Engineers Ireland in our offices at 22 Clyde Road, Dublin 4. Both our institutes have a history over many decades of building great infrastructure.  The title of the Address was: “How Civil Engineers can Survive and Thrive in the Twenty-First Century.”  Ed McCann spoke particularly about productivity and increasing efficiency & effectiveness in civil engineering - while reducing waste.

Welcoming Ed McCann to Engineers Ireland’s offices, John Power our President, said: “ This Address is an extremely positive collaboration between both institutes which share many common purposes, including supporting our members to be the best engineers they can be throughout their careers. The Institution of Civil Engineers has put decarbonisation at the heart of its agenda, alongside climate resilience, productivity, digital and other key transformation strands. In Engineers Ireland, sustainability is at the heart too of our agenda – our Vision statement, for example, is A community of creative professionals delivering sustainable solutions for society.”

Ed McCann’s Address was delivered to an in-person and online audience and the recording is now available here.
