Medical technology company Alere is to triple the size of its operations in Galway, which will result in the creation of 40 jobs.
The company’s Ballybrit operation oversees the processing and delivery of medical diagnostic tests, and already employs more than 100 people.
Following its expansion, the company will manage more than 150 million tests at its Galway site.
The Galway centre already oversees the processing and delivery of Alere’s healthcare tests in Europe and the Middle East, and it will also add Eastern Europe, Latin America and Africa to its portfolio.
The company supplies about 1.4 billion tests a year to patients in over 100 countries around the world.
‘Alere’s Irish operations play a significant role in delivering start of the art rapid diagnostics to patients around the world and are a central part of our global operations,” said the Alere International’s president and general manager, Mark Hengerer.
He said the expansion news was a testament to the talent and commitment of the company’s staff in Galway.
Alere’s operations in Ireland are supported by IDA Ireland and the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.
