Winners announced for the STEPS Engineering Your Future @ Home Challenge 2021
The STEPS Engineering Your Future @ Home Challenge was created to encourage students to design or create a device or system that can improve sustainability in their home, school, or community. We had some fantastic entries to this year’s challenge and here we outline the three winners.
1st place: Anastasia O’Donnell, TY student from Muckross Park College, Donnybrook, Dublin. Anastasia designed a water saving device that can measure how much water you have used in the shower so that you can save water.
2nd place: A group of students – Abby Moyles, Ellen Birmingham, Claudia Durkan and Lauren Fitzpatrick from TY in Scoil Mhuire, Trim, Co. Meath. This group designed and 3D printed a reusable, recyclable pen to reduce waste from disposable plastic pens.
3rd place: Shannon Donnelly, a TY Student from St Finian’s College, Mullingar. Shannon designed a portable charger made from old mobile phone batteries.
Congratulations to all the winners who showed innovation and creativity in designing their projects. Many thanks to all the students who entered this year and shared their ideas with us, we really enjoyed seeing all their work.
