Guidelines for making a complaint

Guidelines for making a complaint about the conduct of a member

All members of Engineers Ireland must comply with our Code of Ethics. Members of the public who are dissatisfied with service received from a member of Engineers Ireland may make a formal complaint to the institution.

How to make a formal complaint

Step one

Ascertain that the engineer in question is indeed a member of Engineers Ireland.

Step two

Upon receiving confirmation that the engineer is a member, a formal letter of complaint should be sent:

  • addressed to the Secretary of the Ethics and Disciplinary Board, Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4
  • signed by the complainant;
  • clearly outlining the circumstances that gave rise to the complaint;
  • highlight what clause(s) of our code the member has in your view breached;
  • include copies of all relevant supporting documentation;
  • detail any prospective or ongoing legal proceedings in relation to the matters raised.
  • It should be noted that the complaint in full will be copied to the member concerned for response.
  • Engineers Ireland cannot deal with complaints against engineers who are not members of the institution.
