IIoT – Low Voltage Connectivity, Communications and Energy Efficiency

ABB Logo 285

Organisation profile

ABB (ABBN: SIX Swiss Ex) is a pioneering technology leader in electrification, industrial automation, motion and robotics & discrete automation, serving customers in utilities, industry and transport & infrastructure globally. Continuing a history of innovation spanning more than 130 years, ABB today is writing the future of industrial digitalisation with two clear value propositions: bringing electricity from any power plant to plug and automating industries from natural resources to products.

Training aim

To take a holistic view of the Irish Landscape in 2020, our 2030 Carbon Reduction Targets and how through Digitising the Low Voltage System we can achieve these targets.

Learning objectives

To understand how through digitisation at low voltage along with, connectivity, SaaS, Big Data and Artificial intelligence will form the foundation of optimised, active and de-carbonised energy systems across the globe. Digital Low Voltage is something that is quite new in Ireland and is currently being underutilized, however the progression and adoption of the new Microgrid capabilities of Low Voltage Digital Hardware is fundamental in reaching Ireland’s 2030 De-Carbonisation Targets.

Course outline

The CPD module will give the audience a rounded view of the Ireland’s 2030 RESS targets in the context of global Mega Trends and Market Trends we are witnessing in the Industrial and Energy Segments. The audience will see learn about the shift change in low voltage technology and how this digital and connected technology has been designed to support the shift changes we are increasingly witnessing in our increasingly active and decentralised electrical distribution system.

Trainer's profile

Prior to studying to become an Engineer James served his time as an electrician both with private industry and ESB Networks. James worked as an Electrical Engineer with both ESB International (HV Substation Design and Project Management) and ESB Networks (DS3 technical programs and program management), achieving Professional Engineer status with ESB before pursuing an MBA. Post MBA James took up the technical/commercial position as Market DevelopmentManager in ABB Ireland for Digital & EVCI.

Course duration

1 hour

Assessment & certification

Those who attend post course will receive a certificate of attendance from ABB proving that they have undertaken the CPD training.

Who should attend

All engineers and technologists who are involved in distribution of energy, micogrids, mission critical infrastructure/projects should attend to understand the advances in digitisation.
