ESB International has announced that it has recently been awarded a multi-million-dollar contract with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for a number of critical projects funded by the US Government agency MCC through the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).
“We will have a five-person team in Ghana to support ECG to review designs and technical documents; assist in a programme to monitor and reduce technical and commercial losses; and coordinate between engineering, network projects, and operations directorates in ECG,” said Ollie Brogan, managing director at ESB International.
Drive to achieve power supply sufficiency and supply to new oil and gas-based industries
The programme is part of a Ghanaian drive to achieve power supply sufficiency and supply to new oil and gas-based industries. The development of EGC’s internal capability via transfer of knowledge and skills sharing underpins the contract.
MiDA’s first round of funding for the ECG Financial and Operational Turnaround Project amounts to almost $150 million with a further $190 million available under Tranche 2 funding.
ECG managing director Ing S Boakye-Appiah, said that “this funding is critical for the betterment of ECG. Changes in the electricity sector will bring much improved services to our customers. I promise the full support of ECG for this project”.
ESB International’s contract is valued at $4.2 million and will run for a period of two years, with a possible one-year extension.
