Training aim

This course will specifically focus upon the review of site specific FRAs which are completed for development applications. The day will discuss the use of applied examples and case studies 

Learning objectives

This one-day CPD course will enable those involved in the review process to become an informed client / reviewer through having a firm understanding of the types of information available and potential sensibility checks which can be undertaken as part of a review process. Attendees will gain an overview of the scope and content of the CFRAM Studies, outlining the potential advantages and pitfalls associated with the use of data outputs from these studies to inform FRAs.

The Planning System & Flood Risk Management
- Background to Flood Policy in Ireland
- Core Principles & Aims of the Planning Guidelines – Flood Zones, Vulnerability of Developments, Sequential Approach & Justification Tests
Understanding & Assessment of Flood Risk:
- Terms and concepts – return period, statistics, likelihood etc.
- Hierarchy of flood risk assessments (staged approach)
- Regional, strategic & detailed assessments of development
- Sources of Flooding

Trainer's profile

Paul Singleton – McCloy Consulting. Paul is an experienced Chartered Civil / Environmental Engineer, specialising in flood risk assessment, SuDS and environmental assessment.  With particular experience of flood risk assessment in Ireland, as well as previously having gained extensive experience of flood risk assessment for infrastructure and private development projects in UK and Ireland. He has specific experience in water chemistry and hydraulic modelling software including Microdrainage
