Powder handling
Powder handling is one of the core capability for pharmaceutical/chemical/food industries, SteriValves experience helps processes where powders and granules tend to aggregate.
One typical example is the agglomeration of powders or granules during transport or stocking in the warehouse. Sometimes the product tends to form lumps that may cause downstream problems. The lumps can easily block the product flow when it needs to be transferred through a pipe or a pneumatic conveyor.
Another example is at the outlet of a wet granulator, where undesired blocks of product can form during the process. When transferring the product into the dryer the lump can have a moisture content that is hard to remove.
Production procedures
When this concern arises, the solution usually includes the intervention of an operator in order to manually break the lumps, or even being forced to use tools more or less compatible with the production procedures.
In the pharmaceutical sector, product exposure to a manual action is often regarded as problematic. In other sectors the operator’s intervention is either unpractical or unprofitable.
In other situations, the process characteristics render the intervention only occasional and a continuous surveillance of an operator just to break the lumps is a pure waste of man labour.
The ideal solution would require a system compact enough to be included in an existing plant and available in various sizes suitable for the existing piping dimensions.
Rotocrusher is a sanitary stainless-steel lump breaker, a device for crushing lumps (clotted powder) that may be present in bulk products. It is powered by a direct high torque drive system (electric motor) that meets rigorous safety and hygiene standards while seeking the ideal fragmentation.
Thanks to its modular, compact construction, the Rotocrusher can also be employed as a pre-breaker in conjunction with a sieve, a mill etc.
Manufactured according to cGMP it is easy to clean and it is suitable for CIP and SIP.
Due to Rotocrusher high demand, SteriValves recently decided to optimise its performance by significantly improving some technical aspects:
Main characteristics and advantages
- Composed by a unique half-body and a few components: favoring disassembly and cleaning and reducing product accumulation areas.
- Reduced total height: allowing it to be placed or integrated in reduce spaces.
- The lump-crushing rotor has been designed to run at higher speed: bearings have been added in the construction scheme to support the weight and to allow rotor and shaft to run faster without increasing bushings and containment seals workload (essential in these devices).
- Blades are aligned: for more efficient crushing work.
- New containment and cleaning system: it is possible to have a working cycle in pressure and in depression. Ideal for SIP and CIP
- it is possible to quickly and easy separate the gearmotor from the Rotocrusher thanks to a slide: easy and safe maintenance and cleaning
Field of applications:
Dryer: to reduce the size of the lumps that keep high humidity content.
Granulation process: to reduce deliberately compacted material in order to obtain an homogeneous drying.
Pneumatic transfer: to reduce natural agglomerations that may block the flow.
