Driving the Future Forward – Introducing the 22000 DMU Hybrid Train to Ireland - Tuesday, 25 January at 12pm

This presentation hosted by the Railways Group will examine introduction of the 22000 DMU Hybrid Train to Ireland. Stephen Fitzgerald, ICR Project Engineer with Irish Rail will discuss the efforts been taken to reduce carbon emission in the public transportation sector by 45% by 2030, with the conversion of purely diesel trains to a new hybrid system to help achieve this target. Whilst buying hybrid trains maybe an easier option, it did not make for a strong business case. Therefore, converting the existing diesel trains to a Hybrid system would achieve the goal but a much larger undertaking.  Please note this event will not be recorded.

DMURS and its implementation in Covid-related Active Travel Projects - Tuesday, 25 January at 7pm

In this webinar, hosted by the Midland region, Seán McGrath discusses the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets and its implementation in Covid-related Active Travel Projects. Sean McGrath is Senior Engineer in the Traffic and Road Safety Section of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. He was a member of the Project team that prepared the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets which was published jointly by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government in 2013.

EU Drinking Water Directive - Thursday, 27 January at 1pm

The additional objective of the Drinking Water Directive is to improve access to water intended for human consumption. In this presentation Donal Cronin, Policy Adviser with the Water Division of the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage will examine the changes required under the recast Directive to ensure a continued supply of high-quality drinking water and the new requirements placed on Members Stated by the Directive.

Thames Tideway – Project Progress - Thursday, 27 January 2022 at 6:30pm

In this event, Colin Murphy, Engineering Manager for Tideway, will provide an overview of the Thames Tideway Tunnel. This tunnel is 25 km long and 65 m below ground, making it the largest water infrastructure project ever undertaken in the UK. It will clean up one of London’s River Thames, protecting it for generations to come and improving the quality of life for Londoners. This presentation will provide an update on project progress, project innovations and the experience of delivering major infrastructure in a global capital during a pandemic. Please note this is a hybrid event and registration is also required in order to attend in person at ICE London.

Engineering National Development: Engineering for Sustainable Mobility – Thursday 27 January 2022 at 6pm

In this session of the West region’s Engineering National Development CPD series, Dr Brian Caulfied, Centre for Transport Research, Trinity College Dublin, will outline the environmental impacts of transport and methods to reduce carbon impacts of transport; Andreas Nikiforiadis, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas will present on a pilot bike sharing scheme in Thessaloniki; and Sébastien Marrec will discuss the Ville de Paris cycling policies and projects. Each speaker will have approximately 20-25 minutes to present and then there will be a Q&A session with the participants.
